Gouache Gerbera Daisies

I finally opened my Winsor and Newton Gouache paints I got for my birthday last July.  It is a medium I have never worked with before and after using them for this small painting I can't wait to use them again.  I liked the opaque quality of gouache (similar to oil) and the quick dry time (similar to watercolor).  Though colors do dry much darker than they first appear painted and that took me a while to adjust to.  I think next time I will try using watercolors and gouache in the same painting to get more depth.

I love playing with color--especially mixing it and experimenting with how color can evoke different emotions and memories.  This is a collection of blue and green color studies starting with a structured composition followed by two studies with more organic compositions.

Starfish Painting

I think this will be my last ocean themed painting for a while.  It was fun to explore a new subject over the past few weeks :)   Starfish have amazing patterns, textures, and colors.
